Our Story

One of the most enchanting country house hotels in the Cotswolds, The Slaughters Manor House is nestled in the heart of the picturesque village of Lower Slaughter, often regarded as one of England’s prettiest villages. This elegant 17th-century manor house is set within beautifully manicured gardens that sit gently alongside the River Eye, creating a serene and timeless setting. Inside, contemporary interiors blend effortlessly with historic character, offering guests an atmosphere of refined comfort, attentive service and exceptional hospitality. The hotel is also home to one of the most acclaimed restaurants in the Cotswolds, where seasonal menus celebrate the very best of local produce.

Perfectly positioned in the heart of the Cotswold countryside, The Slaughters Manor House provides an idyllic base from which to explore the region’s honey-stone villages, rolling landscapes and historic market towns. Just a short drive away are Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold and Daylesford Organic, while the wider area offers easy access to Oxford’s dreaming spires and Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare. Whether exploring or unwinding, The Slaughters Manor House offers an elegant retreat in one of England’s most beautiful settings.

Our History

It is known that a manor house stood on the site before the Conquest, even as early as 1004 A.D. In 1443, the Manor became a convent housing nuns from the order of Syon, the order being granted the land during this period. The two storey Dovecote that still stands in the grounds is believed to have supplied the nuns with nourishment. The Manor was returned to the crown in 1603 and in 1611 was granted to Sir George Whitmore, High Sheriff of Gloucestershire. It remained in his family until 1964 when it became a hotel. The property was purchased by Andrew Brownsword Hotels in 2011.
